It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Katherine Eva Victoria Stewart during the late hours of March 31st, 2025, Mothering Sunday.
Kathie was born on August 31, 1938 to Ernest and Agnus Williams. She grew up and was educated in both Port Arthur and Fort William, now collectively known as Thunder Bay. Following her marriage, Kathie relocated to Victoria, BC, where she welcomed four children of her own. She later returned to Thunder Bay, where she continued to pursue further education in business and rejoining the workforce to provide support for her family. Kathie married the love of her life, Don Stewart, in 1974 and was blessed to welcome three more step-children into her family.
Kathie spent many years working hard to run and maintain a family farm in South Gillies, keeping and caring for a wide variety of animals. During this time she became very involved with the Hymer’s Fall Fair which became something she looked forward to every year. Later she transitioned back to city life, finding meaningful employment at Co-operator’s Insurance while also selling Aloette Skincare products.
Retirement gifted Kathie with time to truly experience her greatest joy in life – her grandchildren. She was blessed with 8 and times spent with them were truly her happiest and most cherished. Kathie - or Nan as she was affectionately known – loved nothing more than filling her home with their laughter while she hosted get togethers and sleepovers. She was always more than happy to welcome all 8 of them and some of their favourite memories continue to be of times spent together with their beloved Nan.
Kathie found many passions in life and filled her days in ways that brought her great joy. She enjoyed gardening and could be found often working in the yard trending to her many plants. She was a long standing member of the Good Sams RV Group and made many wonderful memories camping with her friends. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. While Kathie enjoyed many hobbies, perhaps the one she enjoyed the most dear was painting. She was incredibly gifted artist and used her talent to create many beautiful water colours that she gifted to family members and friends.
In addition to those passions, one of Kathie’s most treasured experiences was a trip to England and Scotland which was a life long dream. Kathie was also an animal lover and throughout her life she enjoyed the companionship of several dogs, who she cared for with unwavering love, dedication and devotion.
Kathie will be deeply missed by her four children; Sherry Felbel (Rick), Trent Orton (Ha), Wanda Marsh (Murray) and Laurel King (Cliff); her three children welcomed through marriage; Sherry Loyst, Ron Stewart (Leslie) and Don Stewart (Lisa), eight grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and nieces, nephews and extended family members and in-laws.
Kathie is predeceased by her husband of 50 years Don Stewart, her parents Ernest and Agnus (Booth) Williams, sisters Joleen Lilly, Bernice Pelly, Francis Chepil, and honourary brother William Bell and many brothers-in-law and extended family.
The family of Kathie would like to extend their most heartfelt thanks to the staff of Hogarth Riverview Manor - 3 South for their dedicated care during Kathie’s final years.
Cremation has taken place and recognizing her lifelong membership with the Anglican Church, a celebration of Kathie’s life will take place at St. Mark’s Anglican Church in Rosslyn on July 26 at 11:00 am with Rev.
