With great sadness we announce the passing of Reggie on June 27, 2025. Reg was the heart and soul of our family. He was my soulmate, my best friend, a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle.
Reg was born April 17, 1939 in Port Arthur. He was the youngest of six. Reg was schooled in Port Arthur. He decided at a young age to become a tradesman. He apprenticed with his brother Bill for their father at Woodbeck Plumbing. Reg became a member of Local 628 in 1957 as a plumber and pipefitter. Reg worked in residential and industrial for many years with Clow Darling and Venshore Mechanical. He enjoyed his work, had a good work ethic, and led by example. Putting his tools aside, he became business agent and business manager of Local 628 - positions he both enjoyed. In 2002 Reg retired and was ready to transition, and enjoyed relaxing with family and friends. He loved being a dad to Craig and Chrissy, and as they became married we transitioned again. We were in our element - we had grandchildren to spoil. Road trips, sleepovers, and going to camp. Green Point was our happy place for generations of family and friends. It grew into a cherished place where laughter echoed, memories were made, and neighbours became friends. Reg liked to putter at jobs big and small, and enjoyed his naps. Evenings found him around a campfire with family and friends, with Craig playing guitar and singing with his buddies. When Reg heard the last notes of “Harvest Moon” fading away, he tossed his red solo cup into the fire and sauntered off to bed. In winter Reg watched hockey, and was a Boston fan, but enjoyed the Jets. He saw many games with his son-in-law Doug in Winnipeg. Mostly, Reg was happiest at home in his easy chair these last few years.
Reg was predeceased by his dad Albert (Mildred), in-laws Elma and Esko, brother Bill, sister Ellen, and friends Bob Paajanen and Paul Honkey. He is survived by wife Karen, son Craig (Lori), daughter Chrissy (Doug), grandchildren Daryl-Lynne (Casey), Sam (Olivia), Kim (Chad), Ryan, and Lauren, great-grandchildren Maeve and Niina, brothers Fred (Marn), Ron (Shirley), sister Joan, sister-in-law Kathy and their families.
Special thanks to nurses on 2C at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital and Debbie in emerge when “Uncle Reg” arrived. Bonnie and her family have been our friends for over 50 years and her support taking me to and from the hospital so I could be with Reg was appreciated. To Craig and Chrissy coming home to see their dad in hospital. To the grandchildren for stepping up in so many ways. A very special gratitude to Dr. Migay, the nurses on 4 north at St. Joe’s Hospital for their compassionate care and smiles caring for Reg in the last months. Special thanks to Robyn for her kindness to Reg, myself and my family during his last moments. Thanks to Sargent and Son for their guidance.
As per Reggie’s wishes, no service will be held. Cremation has taken place. He will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Gardens in a private service in the Fall. Donations to St. Joseph’s Care Group would be welcomed. Online condolences may be expressed at www.sargentandson.com.
Those we love can never
truly leave us.
We feel their presence like
a gentle touch.
Whenever we remember
moments shared
and do again the things
we love to do
In so many ways they
remain with us.
Their gentle spirit part of all
we do and are.
