Marjorie Eleanor Newton, nee Winters, aged 84 years, passed away suddenly at Hogarth Riverview Manor on July 18th, 2025. Marjorie was born March 6th, 1941 and raised on a farm in Ashville, Manitoba in the same log home that was built by her grandparents and her father was born in. She was an avid animal lover with a special admiration for horses, dogs, and cats. She rode her horse to the Mineral Creek School she attended in Manitoba. Marjorie moved permanently to Thunder Bay in 1969 minus the one year the family moved to Ottawa. Being raised on the farm, she loved the outdoors, and took her children on many camping trips throughout Manitoba and Ontario. Marjorie was a working mother and wore many hats. She worked in many of the local care homes and finally retired from the original Pinewood Court in 2005. She lived by the calendar in the kitchen to keep her days organized. Marjorie spent many years volunteering at Broadway United Church, Brownies, Girl Guides, and CGIT. She will be remembered for her strength, her love of dancing, and a good coffee from Robin's Donuts. She is survived by her four children: Connie Lawrence (Dave), Karen De Piero-Trewin (Norm), David Newton (Twyla), and Heather MacPhail. Her grandchildren Tricia (Dan), Ashley (Justin), Daniel (Larissa), Lorelei (Nick), Alexander, Aaron, Lauren, and Trinity; her great-grandchildren Nicholas, Becca, Madi, Brodie, and Liara along with her cat Skippy. Marjorie had many nieces, nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews, cousins, and wonderful friends too numerous to mention here. She is predeceased by her parents Della and Lyman Winters, her sisters Elaine Winters and Jean Hockridge, brother-in-law Garry Hockridge, her son-in-law John De Piero, grandson Gary De Piero, and niece Shelley Winters. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 10th, at the CAW Hall on Gore Street from 1-4pm. You are welcome to pay your respects and visit with the family during this time. If so desired, in lieu of flowers, a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
