It is true what they say "only the good die young." On Friday, July 18th, we lost the most wonderful and loving mother, wife, grandmother, and sister a family could ask for. Faylene(Fay) Gibson; a woman who touched countless lives and many hearts with her kindness and compassion, a true fighter. Fay passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side and holding the hand of her loving husband of 32 years, Carl, just as she had wished.
Fay was born in Port Arthur, Ontario on May 9th, 1963 to Verlie and Ben Estey. She grew up in Thunder Bay alongside her siblings and extended family who she held near and dear to her heart. Fay was a person who enjoyed life to the fullest and brought so many people together with all the pool parties at the house, camping at Whitefish, gambling with the posties, or her many travel adventures with friends old and new.
She was very proud of her two daughters Jessica and Christina and their accomplishments in life. However, nothing made her more proud than holding the title of grandma. Fay loved her grandchildren more than anything on this planet and could always be seen with one in tow, along with her loving dog Bow following close behind.
Fay spent 30 plus years working at Zellers where she not only was an employee but built a big family around her. After Zellers she moved onto Canada Post where she met a whole other family – The “posties” who were near and dear to her heart.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband Carl, and daughters Christina and Jessica (Chad). Her grandchildren who were her pride and joy Adalynn, Arya-Fay, Aubrey and Elliana. As well as sisters Roseanna, Eva, Connie, Becky, Michelle and her in laws Nancy (Bob), Tracy (Jamie). Her best friend of over 40 years Tammy Cameron, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her parents Verlie and Ben, brother Keith and sister Christine Estey as well as her mother and father in laws Joyce and Bill Gibson, and brother in law Glen.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Garon, family physician and palliative care doctor. The doctors, nurses and staff at Thunder Bay Regional Cancer Center, specifically Dr.Faghi and Dr.Anthes for their care over the past 10 years of mom’s battle. The oncology inpatient nurses and staff. As well as the nurses from para-med (Ryan, Connor, Christine) and the staff at medi-gas for being so wonderful and understanding at such a difficult time.
In lieu of flowers please donate to the animal rescue of your choice or the Thunder Bay Cancer Centre.
Please raise your glass and pay it forward in honour of Fay. Details of the celebration of life to follow.
