It is with sadness that our family announces the peaceful passing of Elizabeth (Beth) Krieg on Friday, May 3, 2024, at the age of 91, at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Beth was a kind a caring person, honest, with a quick wit and a deep love of family. We will miss her dearly.

Beth was born and raised in Niagara Falls, Ontario to George Macdonald and Violet Gregory. She was the youngest of seven children. She first lived on Lundy’s Lane and in her youth enjoyed exploring the Niagara River and Escarpment.

In her teens she travelled to the Thunder Bay area to visit her with her sister Isobel on the farm in Pearson Township and went to nursing school and received her diploma from The Greater Niagara General Hospital School of Nursing in 1955. She had worked for a short time, leaving to raise her children, but returned to the profession, retiring in 1990 after working at The General Hospital of Port Arthur.

Beth and Les were married January 15,1954. They raised their family in Chippewa but eventually wanted to move north to enjoy more of the outdoors. Beth had introduced Les to the Thunder Bay area, and they moved there in 1968. Shortly after they purchased a camp at Cloud Lake.

Krieg’s Kamp became a gathering place for family, friends, and a growing extended family, where everyone was always welcome. There are many fond memories of spending time together enjoying each other’s company at the lake and carrying on in the sauna, around the campfire and at the table.

Their love of the outdoors extended to several fishing and camping trips. Beth was always the one to out fish the others in the boat. Later, to escape the cold, they purchased a condo in Jensen Beach Florida and came to spend their winters there. They enjoyed their retirement years, staying active, golfing, fishing, and spending time with friends. From Florida they travelled yearly to Cancun to spend time with their son Doug and his family.

Beth was also known for her baking and made the best cookies and pies. She was always willing to share her time baking with her children and her grandchildren. She was also artistic and enjoyed knitting, sewing, making ceramics and other crafts.

Beth’s family meant the world to her. She raised her four children with quiet discipline and unconditional love. She allowed them to be independent and find their own way but was there to support them when needed. She enjoyed time with her grandchildren, and it gave her great pride to watch them build lives of their own. The arrival of her great-grandchildren brought her even more joy these last few years.

Elizabeth is survived by her children: Karen (Scott) Bradley, Gordon (Susan) Krieg, Douglas (Mariela) Krieg, Kathi Krieg; her grandchildren: Rachel White, Justin (Danielle) Specht, Elizabeth (Adam) Belanger, Devin Bradley, Samantha (Alex) Krieg, Maribeth and Ambar Krieg, and her great grandchildren: Nolan and Simone Specht and Sunday Belanger. She is predeceased by her husband Leslie Krieg, sisters Ella (Lou) Bayes, Norma (Donald) Muir, Isobel (Gen) Flank, brothers Gordon/Mick (Jean) MacDonald, Robert (Helen) MacDonald and Alan (Sadie) MacDonald.

The family would like to thank the staff at the TBRHSC for their care during Beth’s last days.

Memorial donations can be made to Desi's Heart Rescue, the Heart and Stroke Society and/or the Canadian Lung Association.

Beth will be interred at Riverside Cemetery and a Celebration of life for family and friends will be announced at a later date.
