It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Carmela Sacino (nee Galella), age 98 years, who left us peacefully on Thursday, July 10, 2025. A proud and strong Italian woman, she was the heart of our family – guiding us with grace, love, and unwavering devotion.

Born on February 14, 1927 in Ruvo del Monte, Italy, Carmela lived a life rich in tradition, love, and generosity. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Vincenzo Sacino, with whom she shared a life full of deep love and shared dreams.

Carmela came to Fort William following her young groom, Vincenzo in 1952. Together they lived a healthy and vibrant life raising their two children, Giuseppe and Donato Sacino.

Carmela was a phenomenal cook whose meals brought the family together and created memories that will be treasured for generations. Her kitchen was always filled with warmth, the smell of homemade sauce, and the laughter of loved ones.

She was a familiar sight in the neighbourhood, often seen on long walks, tending to her lush garden, or starting her days with early morning swims at the pool. She embraced life with vitality and joy, finding peace in the simple pleasures of the outdoors and pride in a life well-lived.

She adored her sons, cherishing every moment of their lives with deep love and fierce pride. Carmela's grandchildren were the light of her life, and she gave them her heart, completely showering them with love, stories, traditions, and the kind of care only a Nona can give.

Carmela's strength, warmth, and spirit will be dearly missed and forever remembered. Her legacy lives on in the values she passed down, the meals we will continue to cook in her memory, and the love that binds our family together.

Carmela is survived by her sons Giuseppe (Cheryl) and Donato; grandchildren Joseph Sacino, Tana-Leigh Harty and great-grandchildren Lux-Leigh and London Harty; as well as many extended relatives.

In honouring her memory, may we continue to live with her passion, her resilience, and her love that held no boundaries.

In respect of Carmela's wishes, a private family service will be held in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James. Interment will follow in Mountainview Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Vincenzo.
