July 16, 1961 - July 25, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of David Filipovic in Sudbury, on July 25, 2025, at the age of 64. He was the son of John and Marguerite Filipovic and will be dearly missed by his wife Denise and children Mathew (Jill), Ryan (Gabrielle) and Michelle (James Johnson). He also leaves behind his grandsons Rémy, Sebastian and Louis, as well as his siblings Sharon (Daniel Elsey), Daniel (Samantha Filipovic), and Tracey (Marc Jewiss).
Born in Thunder Bay on July 16, 1961, Dave developed a passion for the outdoors and physical activity at a young age. He spent countless summers swimming, boating, and taking saunas at his family camp on Loon Lake, a tradition that he was able to share with his children, nieces and nephews. Dave took every chance he could to hike, windsurf, sail, ski, and play tennis and hockey. At age 55, Dave took up Jiu-Jitsu proving that age is just a number. He spent his free time reading the Globe and Mail, playing the piano and guitar, and fixing just about anything around the house.
Dave had a strong work ethic which was valued throughout his 30-year career as an Orthotist at Health Sciences North. His dedication and commitment to the wellbeing of his patients touched the lives of many, but it was at home where Dave truly shined. He was a deeply devoted husband to his wife and soulmate of 45 years who was by his side right to the end. Whether it was going for walks, camping in their trailer, or simply enjoying each other’s company at the lake, they shared countless moments that reflected the love and deep connection they shared.
He was a constant source of love, laughter and wisdom to his children. His greatest joy came from spending quality time with them and celebrating life’s milestones. He also cherished his grandsons and was a loving presence in their lives. Dave found immense happiness in simple moments of connection with those he loved. He will be remembered for his great sense of humour, loveable quirks, desire to help others, inquisitive mind, cheeky competitive streak, and of course, his famous risotto.
Dave was dearly loved and will be missed by all his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, strength, and joy of living will live on through his family and all the lives he touched. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff in CMU, IRU and 5 South of HSN for their care and compassion for Dave.
At Dave’s request there will be no visitation. However, the family invites you to join them for a memorial mass to be held on Friday, August 1st, 2025, at Holy Redeemer Church (1887 Bancroft Drive, Sudbury, ON) at 11:00 a.m. with lunch to follow at approx. 12:00 p.m. For those unable to attend, the mass will also be live streamed on the Holy Redeemer Church website. A private family scattering of ashes will take place at a later date.
In memory of Dave, donations could be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
