It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Stephen Mason on August 12, 2023 at the age of 35.

Steve was born on July 19, 1988, to parents Scott and Karen, and big brother Brian. From an early age, Steve always had a big heart and lots of love for his family. He was a happy child.  In his early life, he enjoyed being with his loved ones, especially camping trips. However, life for Steve wasn’t always easy, and for years he struggled through the lows of addiction, but on November 18, 2018, he overcame this. Steve was very proud of this, and all that he accomplished afterwards. He held strong, up until his passing.  In his later years Steve enjoyed going fishing with his brother, and spending time with family and his kitten Socks. Steve always came prepared with a joke and made sure he gave you a hug before he left. He was never shy to tell you he loved you.

Left to mourn, are his parents, Scott Mason, Karen Watkins (Don), his brother Brian (Jacklyn), nieces Harper and Sadie, Grandparents Lenny and Margaret Arvelin, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He will be forever missed by his cousin Kaila Evans, whom he shared a special relationship with and trusted and loved very much. He also leaves behind two special boys Kendrick and Spencer, who always held a place in his heart. The family would like to thank his best friend Nick Davies-Smyth for everything he has done to help Steve along his journey in life.

A private burial will be held for immediate family. A Celebration of Life for friends and family will be held on September 30, 2023 from 2-5pm at Branch 5 Legion at 229 Van Norman Street.

Steve will be missed dearly and his family is very proud of everything he has accomplished.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the Stroke Program at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, or the Thunder Bay Humane Society.
