Mrs. Carol Ann Taylor-Coolen, age 89 years, resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospice on 19 June 2025. She was born on 8 October 1935 in Moncton, New Brunswick to Frank Taylor and Margaret Terrio, and was raised there. Carol attended Saint Francis Xavier University and the University of New Brunswick and graduated from UNB in Fredericton with a BA in Business Administration. While there she met her spouse John Coolen and they were married in Moncton in 1966. Carol and John lived for two years in Montreal, then two years in Edmonton, and finally settled in Thunder Bay. She taught business classes in schools in Montreal, Edmonton, and Thunder Bay.
Her interests included politics, the arts, gardening, and her family. She has done paintings in oils and pastels, and even a few ceramic pottery items. She designed the garden in our yard and worked on it for many years. Many will remember coming to our annual garden party lobster boils, and later the Old Goats parties. She enjoyed attending local Baroque and Symphony concerts and of course the after-concert parties. She always enjoyed travelling to places like Minneapolis, Duluth, Toronto, and home to the Maritimes. She was especially fond of the South Shore of Nova Scotia, and her hometown of Moncton.
Carol is survived by her spouse John Coolen, daughter Kate (Rob Crowe), son Tony (Arlene Jantunen), grand children Carlee Crowe (Andrew Booth), Jack Crowe, Mark Coolen (Brook Huckabay) and great grand daughter Ellie, all resident in Thunder Bay. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister Candy in Moncton.
The family would like to thank all the doctors and staff at the Regional Hospital and at St. Joseph’s Hospice for their help during a lengthy illness, and all the friends and family members who visited and sat by her side.
According to her wishes, no service will be held. Cremation has taken place, and her remains will be interred later in the Coolen plot in Fern Hill Cemetery, Saint John, New Brunswick. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
