On the afternoon of March 9, 2024, our Mother, Oma, Grandmother, Great Oma and Great Grandmother left us for her eternal home.

Born in the Netherlands December 9, 1930, she was the eldest child of Willem and Ritske Roffel. In her late teens Meta met Roelof, the brother of a nearby farmer. They married March 21,1951 and were married over 66 years.

Shortly after their marriage Meta and Roelof immigrated to Canada arriving in the Thunder Bay area in April of that year. Four years later they found their farm and forever home in Gillies Township where Meta resided until her recent illness.

Meta was a woman of faith and relied on that faith to get her through life’s ups and downs. Although not one to show the world her feelings she felt deeply the joys and sorrows of those near and dear to her.

Meta reveled in her role as Oma / Grandma and Great Oma / Great Grandma always keeping a supply of each one’s favorite treat in the cupboard just in case they came for a visit. She avidly followed their exploits in academics, sports and their lives in general.

Meta is survived by her sister Margaret (Rien), sons Rudy (Aria) and Rick (Pam)

She is also survived by grandchildren Wendi (James), Jocelyn (Jesse), Ashley, Alex, Mike, Tim and Neil (Dianne) and grandchild of the heart Olivia. Also survived by great grandchildren Caitlin, Hannah, Maria, Emily, Julia, Jamie, Nathan, Messiah, Ronan, Rydyr and Owen.

Predeceased by her parents, husband Roelof, son Fred, brothers Wiebe and Franke sister Hillie (Helen) and grandson Jason.

Visitation will be on Friday, March 15, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at First CRC Cooper Road, with service immediately following at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery Hymers at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, should friends desire, donations toward cancer research would be greatly appreciated.

The family extends its gratitude to all the personal support workers who assisted Meta for the past 3 years so she could live out her days with Fred at home.
