It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, nonno, Mario Amendola in his 90th year, on January 22, 2023, surrounded by his family at home. Mario was born in Mendicino, Cosenza, Italy and then moved to Grimaldi, Cosenza, Italy where he would meet the love of his life, Luisa (Lisa). He made a lasting impact on those within the community with his caring and selfless nature. His legacy is memorialized within the walls of Grimaldi, an exemplification of his craftsmanship as a master mason. In 1975, Mario made the decision to move to Thunder Bay, Ontario, for the betterment of and opportunity for his young family.

When asked if he missed his country, his response was, "my country is my family." This was indicative of Mario's love for his family; traits that he passed onto his four children. His love was kind and selfless. He was stern, strong willed but soft-hearted. He was a proud and respected man.

Mario will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Lisa; children Carlo (Lilly), Emy (Geoff), Sonia Parry (Steve), Pino (Carla); grandchildren Michael (Lia) and Sean Parry, Bianca and Olivia Amendola; step grand-children Gabrielle and Sydney Clark; great-grandson Luuka Parry; sister Ornella Madrigrano, sister-in-law Dora (Giuseppe) Marello as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, especially, the Felice family, his compari, who were a constant in his life, through games of scopa, laughter, and comfort, they were truly an extension of his family. Mario was predeceased by his father, Renato, mother Emilia, brother Carlo, sisters Ada and Maria Pia as well as his mother-in-law, Maria Ferraro and brother-in-laws Mario, Filippo and Salvatore.

Special thank you to the 1A medical staff and nurses, at TBRHSC for all of your care, Kyle and Rob, from Bayshore Home Health and all of the support workers for their care and compassion; making our father's transition home as comfortable as possible.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at St. Anthony’s R.C. Church with Rev. Luigi Filippini officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service.
