Emily Pugh (nee Wenzel) peacefully passed away on August 5, 2023, at St. Joseph's Care Group Palliative Care Unit after a brief illness. Born in Hamburg, Germany, on January 10, 1927, she embarked on a journey to Canada in 1950, seeking a better life. Her determination and courage laid the foundation for her family's presence in Canada, a legacy for which they are profoundly grateful.

Emily is survived by her grandchildren Ronnie DeRozea (Grant) and TJ Gedanitz (Megan), along with her great-grandchildren River, Maddox, and Sawyer. She also leaves behind her niece, Judith Monteith-Farrell, and nephews Joe Wenzel (Shirley), Willy Wenzel (Patsy), and Eckart Paul Wenzel. Emily's extended family includes numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Karl and Dora Wenzel, as well as her brothers Rolf and Helmut, and her beloved and only daughter, Tanja Petryna (Gacki, Gedanitz).

Over her 96 years, Emily achieved many milestones, but one of her most remarkable accomplishments was receiving the Outstanding Volunteer Award from the Government of Ontario. Her unwavering dedication to volunteer work with the St. Joseph's Auxiliary spanned three decades, leaving an indelible mark on the community.

Special gratitude is extended to Emily's dear friends, Sonia and Luis Saez, who embraced her with familial love and companionship.

A celebration of Emily's life will take place on August 20 at noon in the third-floor meeting room of her condominium at 725 South James St.
