It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Maria Costa (Nee Totino), who left us on June 26, 2025 at Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre, in Thunder Bay, Ontario at the age of 89 with her family by her side.
Maria was born August 25, 1935 in Gioiosa, Ionica, Italy. She married the love of her life, Vincenzo (Jimmy) Costa in April 1951. They emigrated to Canada shortly after and went onto build a family with their five boys in Schreiber.
Maria is survived by her children Frank (Antonella), Albert (Myrna), Coe; grandchildren, Christine (Shane), Lisa (Richard), Jimmy, Michael (Courtney), David (Courtney), Maria (Mitesh), Susanna (Ivan), Jimmy (Kylie), Cherie (Frank), Logan (Megan), Cassandra, Kyle, Bryan and Elizabeth; and great grandchildren, Dante, Tyler, Ethan, Dylan, Chandler, Isabella, Peyton, Logan, Madison, Neela, Dalia, Oliver, Dawson, Evie, Maaya.
She was predeceased by her husband, Vincenzo, and sons Joe and Peter, and many close family members who she held close to her heart.
Maria will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her beautiful garden and pepper plants that she cared so deeply for. She was the glue that held the Costa family together. Whether it was a home-cooked meal for every special occasion, afternoon coffee with cookies, Nani‘s door was always open as the gathering place for family and friends.
Viewing will be held at Kings Funeral home on Thursday, July 3 from 7 to 9 p.m. The Funeral will follow Friday, July 4 at 11 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Schreiber, Ont.
