It is with heavy hearts that the family of Colleen Margaret McCreery announce her peaceful passing at TBRH on August 14 following a lengthy illness.

Born and raised in Thunder Bay on July 21, 1962, Colleen enjoyed her nursing career and found her niche working for many years as the school nurse at Dennis Franklin Cromarty High School, where she considered the students she so passionately served as “her kids”!  Colleen was a giving soul with a big heart and truly enjoyed life’s simpler pleasures, especially a good campfire and long afternoon drives in the country. She pampered her numerous pets and received much joy in the last few years from her two dogs Bo and Buddy. She was an avid reader of all genres and enjoyed old classic movies. She loved listening to her favourite musicians, and cherished the moments spent seeing many of them live in concert with her friends. She was extremely proud of her Irish heritage and was lucky to visit Ireland a few times where she truly felt connected to her Celtic roots. Colleen valued her family and friends both old and new and despite not spending much time with them in the last few years they were always close to her heart.

Colleen will be missed by her brother Tom McCreery (Marilyn), sister Linda (Marc Lalonde) and her brother-in-law Peter Black. She was a loving aunt to Daniel (Marcie) and Gerald McCreery, Matthew (Julie Caren), Kelly (Micheal Jacques) and Mitchell Lalonde and Jennifer (Eric Campbell) and Peter Black Jr. Being a great aunt to Norah and Noelle McCreery, Elliette Jacques and Tate Lalonde was dear to her heart as were her numerous cousins. Colleen was predeceased by her loving parents Osborne and Esther McCreery and her dear sister Maureen McCreery Black.

Cremation has taken place and a private interment will be held later. As per Colleen’s wishes there will be an informal Celebration of Life on Wed. August 30 from 3-7pm at 1025 Brookview Place. All friends and family welcome!

If friends desire donations in memory of Colleen McCreery to the Lung Transplant Research Fund for Excellence, at UHN Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Please visit UHNfoundation.ca/tribute or call 416-603-5300.
