Beloved daughter, sister, auntie, grandmother, and devoted wife left us unexpectedly on August 7th , 2024, at the Nipigon District Memorial Hospital, surrounded by family and friends.
Born on November 13th, 1937, in Kenogami, Quebec, Colette’s family moved to Red Rock, Ontario, she later moved to Nipigon, worked locally, went on a blind date with John and the rest is history.
After having five children, Colette’s entrepreneurship spirit led her to open her first business, Chez Colette, on Third Street creating custom made clothing servicing the North Shore for 10+ years. Together with Martha Stadler, they had the best and busiest of times being involved with their clients’ special engagements and events.
After closing the business, her Macmillan Bloedel Limited working career was from January 1986 until her retirement in December of 2002. She enjoyed working alongside her work family, and in retirement, she became a human excavator moving material from one area of her property to another and worked every day in her garden.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Dean of Alberta, Monique (Roy) of Southern Ontario, Roland (Recently Deceased) of Toronto, Denise (Rick) Vail of Alberta, JC of Thunder Bay, sister Nicole of New Brunswick and grandchildren, Justin, Joseph, Justin, Destinee, Landon, Nathaniel, Dallas, Colton, Jacob and Jonah. She was also blessed with three great grandchildren, Nathaniel Jr., Maisie and Jett.
A big thank you to Wendy Seabrook, her PSW’s Bryce, Savanna and Yunna, the Lakehead Manor staff and the Nipigon District Memorial Hospital.
Predeceased by her husband John, son Roland, parents Cecile and Eugene Carrey, sisters Simone, Rev. Sister Lilliane, Rita, Monique, brothers Henry, Claude, Conrad, and Roger.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Colette on Saturday, August 17th, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Nipigon, Ontario, celebrated by Father Bonaventure Anaike. Following the service, the family invites friends to remain for a reception, and interment will follow at the Cliffside Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
