With saddened hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Brent John Sand on April 22, 2025, but we are grateful for a life well-lived. Brent began his journey in Fort Frances on July 27, 1937, the first born to Ole and Diana Sand. His sister Donna completed the family with her arrival two years later.

Brent entered the work force at an early age and was employed by the CNR. He moved to Rainy River, where he worked as a fireman on the steam engines and the diesels.

It was in Rainy River that he met and married Betty. After moving to Thunder Bay, he joined the Ontario Provincial Police in 1963. In 1990, Brent retired from his position as Detective Sergeant.

Trips to Hawaii, Cuba, Mexico and Costa Rica with his friend Art filled his time until Betty retired. Then they went on many trips in their motor home.

Brent finally got his girl when his granddaughter Morgan came to live with us. Her presence gave him joy and purpose.

When he was diagnosed with dementia, Brent attended programs at the Manor House and the VON. He looked forward to attending these day programs. The family owes a huge thank you to the staff at these centres. You are incredible. We also wish to thank Dr. Lai for his many years of exceptional care, as well as Dr. Shack.

Brent is survived by his wife Betty and granddaughter Morgan, sons Brian (Everett Washington), Bill (Thunder Bay). His sister Donna also survives, as well as nephew Brent Allen (Anna) and niece Lynne Reed (Rick), great nephews Mitchell, Curtis and Connor and a great niece Whitney. He will be missed by is chosen family Lisa, Braedon and Connor Belluz and Makenna Burke. He was predeceased by his son Brent, his parents and his brother-in-law Keith Allen, as well as childhood friends Don, Art and Lyle Martin.

Celebration of life will be held at a later date. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to St. Marks’ Church in Rosslyn Village or Our Hearts at Home Campaign through TBRHS Foundation, 980 Oliver Road, Thunder Bay, ON P7B 6V4.
