It is with profound sadness that the family of Mrs. Assunta Campigotto (nee: Tropea), age 88 years, announce her sudden passing on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at the TBRHSC.

Born on October 10, 1935, in Spezzano Picolo, Italy, she immigrated to Port Arthur in 1966. Here she met and married the love of her life, Orlando. Together they raised three children and filled their home with love, laughter and of course, delicious food.

Assunta was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose main focus was her family. She cherished every moment she spent with them, and her great-grandchildren brought her extra special joy.  She loved to cook for her loved ones and would often have big family gatherings. The aroma of her cooking would attract the whole neighbourhood and she would invite them in for pasta and meatballs. She enjoyed knitting and tending to her garden in her spare time.

She leaves behind to mourn this tremendous loss her children, Emileo “Amo” (Sari) Campigotto, Anna (Bob) Oberg, and Carol (Dave) Makila; grandchildren, Jessica (Jeff), Amanda (Fran), Makaila (Dylan), Alisha (Kihannah), Dylan and Jacob; great-grandchildren, Lucas and Aria; sisters, Annunziata Aiello, Elena Deciccio; brother Salvatore Tropea; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Predeceased by her loving husband, Orlando; parents, Maria Grazia and Francesco Tropea; stepmother, Carolina Tropea; brothers, Aldo, and Luigi; sisters-in-law, Olga, Rosetta, and Betty; and brothers-in-law, Baldino Aiello and Frank Deciccio.

Thank you to the staff at Thunder Bay Regional emergency department. Zoe, Sami, Carly M, Melissa, Cynthia, and Dr. Smith for the excellent care. To all the staff on 2A. Dr. Zaib and especially Hillary for treating Nonna so kindly. To all the wonderful staff at Sister Leila Greco for the care and support they provided.

Funeral services will be held at 10am on Thursday, March 28, 2024, in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel. A private interment will follow in St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery. To honour Assunta’s memory, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
