Jan. 13, 1937 – May 19, 2025
Mr. Arnold George Retejume, age 88 years, resident of Thunder Bay, died on May 19, 2025 at Southbridge Pinewood Care Home with family by his side.
He was born in 1937, Port Arthur, Ontario and lived in Thunder Bay his whole life.
Arnie married his wife, Erna, in 1989 and they spent many happy years travelling, camping, hunting, fishing and exploring at Eaglehead Lake and the surrounding area with their families and friends. He has left behind many treasured memories.
As a child he spent many months in bush camps as his dad ran different lumber camps and his mom was the cook. He had lots of leisure time to explore nature. Thus his love for fishing and hunting began. He walked many streams fishing speckle trout and enjoyed hunting come the Fall season. In his younger years Arnie excelled at soccer, baseball and hockey. He was employed by Saskatchewan Wheat Pool for 35 years retiring in 1993 as head Grain Inspector.
He is survived by his wife Erna, his daughters Le-Anne Demonte, Karen Retgum and Cindy Retgum – Thunder Bay, ON. Also by his step-children: Andrea Stewardson-Richards (Clayton), Thunder Bay, ON, Matthew Stewardson (Jill), Sioux Lookout, ON and Geoffrey Stewardson (Charity), Sylvan Lake, Alberta. His Grandchildren: Chantal and Chris DeMonte, Holly Retgum, Taylor Makinen, Grace and Jane Richards, Elijah and Quintin Loon-Stewardson and Jax, Knox & Erix Dutkevich. His special cousin Sheila Hardy. His very loved cats Saber and Kio.
Arnie was predeceased by his parents George and Martha Retgum and his sister Sarah Korpi (Henry).
Cremation has taken place and per Arnie’s wishes no funeral services will be held. A private family graveside interment will be at a later date. Should friends so desire donations in Arnie’s memory made to TBRHSC - Renal Unit, Kitty Care, Caring Hearts Cat Rescue or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
Those we love don’t go away
They walk beside us every day
Unseen, unheard, but always near
Still loved, still missed and very dear
I would like to thank the Renal Department at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre and all the staff at Southbridge Pinewood for the excellent care and love they gave Arnie.
