It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother Anna Maria Johnson (née Eerkens) Thursday, April 24, 2025, at the age of 81, with family by her side.
A most wonderful Wife, Mother, Oma, Mother-in-Law, Sister, Sister-in-Law, Aunt, and friend to many special people.
Born in Utrecht, Netherlands on October 10, 1943, and immigrated to Canada July 10, 1957. Ann married her best friend George on September 30, 1967. She will be lovingly remembered for her strength, compassion, generosity, and unconditional love.
Ann was family-oriented and was dedicated to making sure others came first. She was always willing to help, support, and encourage family and friends to follow their dreams and to face any adversities life may present head on.
Ann had a great sense of humour and knew when to show it. This was evident through her many unique expressions and sayings; “gotta get them gains son”, “you betcha”, “sunsine”, “I’m gonna schmuck you”, “looks good to me”, “never give up”, and “I don’t think so”. These sayings will be remembered forever.
Ann was employed by both the Ridgeway and Spence Clinics for a period of over 40 years in their accounting departments, where she made many lifelong friendships. Some of these special friendships were referred to as the “THE COWS”, and her hand and foot card game nights with the card gangs.
Oma could always be found shuttling her grandsons wherever they needed to go; attending hockey, soccer, baseball, scouts, skiing, volleyball, and cheering on her grandchildren in everything they did.
Oma, lovingly known as “Pancake Stack”, was so proud of the many early life accomplishments her grandchildren achieved and the great young men they have become today.
In Ann’s younger years her hobbies included cycling, playing soccer, and gardening. More recently, Ann enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards, curling, and donating the odd dollar to area casinos. She also volunteered for several years at the TBRHSC, and the Christmas Cheer food drive where she helped package food hampers which she continued doing after her husband George passed away.
Ann was predeceased by her mother Anthonia (née Dufrenne), loving husband of many years George, brother Burt, as well as many other special family members which were dear to her.
Ann is survived by her loving daughter Kristi, son Kevin (Laura), grandchildren Kynan, Kohl, sister Willy (Alvin; deceased), brother Hank, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and cherished nieces and nephews.
Ann’s family would like to pass along a sincere thank you to the tremendous team of nurses, doctors (with a special thanks to Dr. Feldstein), support staff, manager, and social worker on unit 4N at St. Joseph’s Care Group. This team of dedicated employees were like an extended family and your care is what made a very difficult time in hospital manageable for Mom and her entire family. Ann would also like to thank her Chartwell on Arundel extended family, she sure appreciated all the care and support she received by all.
Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be held at a date to be determined.
Should you desire, you can donate to Liver Canada, the Northern Cancer Fund (TBRHSC Foundation), or a charity special to you in her memory.
You will be remembered always, never forgotten, Love you forever.
