With profound sadness, the family announces that Alexander Missewace, 53, of Eabametoong First Nation, passed away on September 4, 2023, at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital, after a lengthy battle with cancer with loved ones by his side.
Alex was born on June 18, 1970 to Joe and Caroline Nate in Sioux Lookout. Alex attended Confederation College, the Business Administration Program. He became the Band Manager for Eabametoong First Nation, and also served as a Band Councillor for 2 years. For a brief time, Alex drove tandem trucks in heavy equipment before serving as a police officer for 27 years with OPP First Nations Policing and Nishnawbe Aski Police Service, working his way to the Inspector Central Region position.
Alex was a strong believer in his Anglican faith and was a prominent moose guide and very knowledgeable in the traditional aspects of his life. He loved hunting with family and friends on his family homelands of Makokibatan Lake, Albany River, and Tinkle Lake.
Alex also enjoyed playing guitar and listening to his favourite band Trooper, watching his Favorite teams the Toronto Blue Jays and the Winnipeg Jets. He also took pleasure in casino trips with family and friends.
Alex is predeceased by his late father Joe, and granddaughter Marrah Lee. Alex leaves behind his partner Doreen, children Madyson, Robinson and adult children Seth, Carolyn, Brandon, step children Ryan and Janey, mother Caroline, brothers Ron (Jemimah), Joseph (Marilyn), sisters Shirley (Roy) and Sharon.
Special mention to his grandson Labron, who is a cancer survivor, and whom he loved very much. Several grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, colleagues, friends and his Shitzu dog Princess.
Funeral services for Alex will be held at the Moose Hall, 434 Fort William Rd. on Friday, September 8, 2023 officiated by Rev. Gordon Holroyd of St. Paul’s Anglican Church at 1:00 p.m. followed by the sharing of stories, music and celebrating Alex’s life. Friends may begin to gather at 12:00 p.m.
A private Funeral Service for invited guests only will be held on Monday, September 11th at St. Paul’s Anglican Church followed by interment in Riverside Cemetery.
