OPP have laid more charges in the death of Buifford Cowley.

KENORA — Another murder charge has been laid in connection with the death of a Naotkamegwanning man in 2022.

On Friday, Ontario Provincial Police announced they charged Kyle McLeod, 38, of Kenora with second degree murder in connection with the death of 45-year-old Buifford Cowley. McLeod also faces a charge of indignity to a dead body.

Police have already laid charges against two other people — including one of second degree murder against a Naotkamegwanning man — in Cowley’s death.

Cowley was reported missing on Sept. 4, 2022 and an extensive search later found human remains in an area of brush in the Northwest Angle 33 First Nation area. The body was subsequently identified as Cowley.

OPP and Treaty 3 police have been investigating since.

McLeod remains in custody and was scheduled to be in court on Friday.

Police said they also charged a 24-year-old woman from Naotkamegwanning with indignity to a dead body and obstructing justice. She was released from custody with a future court date.
