One man charged following stand-off in Wabigoon First Nation

A 37-year-old is facing charges following a stand-off over the weekend.

OPP warned the public to avoid the Wabigoon area as the force responded to an individual reportedly barricaded inside a residence.

WABIGOON FIRST NATION – A Sioux Lookout resident is facing a failure to comply with probation order charge following a stand-off in Wabigoon First Nation.

According to an Ontario Provincial Police release, officers received a report shortly before 10 a.m. of an assault at a residence on Cemetery Road on Sunday, March 13.

Upon arrive on scene, police discovered the suspect has barricaded themselves inside a residence with another individual.

Police cordoned off the area while crisis negotiators worked to resolve the situation peacefully.

Nathaniel KAMENAWATAMIN, 37, of Sioux Lookout was taken into custody without any injury around 7 p.m. and charged with failure to comply with a probation order.

Police say further charges may be pending as investigation is ongoing.
