NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO — The OPP reported a increase of just over 10 per cent in calls were made to police in Northwestern Ontario.
During last week's reporting period, from May 19 to 25, police logged 1,720 incidents for detachments in Dryden, Kenora, Sioux Lookout, Red Lake, and Rainy River, compared to the previous week.
Across all five detachments, there were 415 charges, including both criminal charges and incidents under the Highway Traffic Act.
The Dryden detatchement feilded the lion's share of charges with 153, and Red Lake was next in line with 97 charges laid.
Community services, eTickets, police assistance and Liquor Licence Control Act incidents topped the list of reasons for the calls.
Dryden OPP issued 126 Highway Traffic Act charges and 27 criminal charges. In comparison, officers in Red Lake issued 45 road-related offences and 52 criminal charges.
The OPP is reminding the public about its online reporting system, which allows citizens to self—report minor incidents and crimes, providing an alternative to having an officer attend the scene.
