NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO — OPP calls for service increased by almost a third last week.
Officers responded to 2,060 calls during the week of April 14 to 21, they report. An increase of 29 per cent over the previous reporting period.
Attending calls in and around the communities of Kenora, Dryden, Rainy River, Sioux Lookout and Red Lake, OPP saw the most calls for service for vehicle eTicketing, traffic complaints and unwanted persons.
Both Dryden and Rainy River reported the most highest number of eTickets issued last week were for eTickets, 243 and 106 were issued respectively.
Officers laid hundreds of charges during this period as well.
A total of 528 charges were laid across the region, with the most coming from Dryden, as officers laid 174 Highway Traffic Act charges and 10 criminal charges.
The OPP is reminding the public about its online reporting system — citizen self reporting — which can be used as an alternative to having an officer attend a scene for minor incidents and crimes.
