SIOUX LOOKOUT– As part of a municipal requirement to meet provincial regulations on public transit, the Municipality of Sioux Lookout is asking the public to fill out a survey regarding the Hub Transit service.
“Over the last six weeks, we have been working diligently to ensure our operations are in full compliance with provincial guidelines, as well as reviewing data on the service’s delivery, with the aim of enhancing service provision to meet the evolving needs of the community,” explained Brian P. MacKinnon, Manager of Corporate Services and Municipal Clerk in a statement.
Due to the rising costs of fuel and the growing demand for public transportation, the municipality took over the volunteer-run Handi-Transit service at the beginning of July. The intention was for the service to operate under the municipality where the service could access a provincial community transportation grant and gas tax funding.
However, the service was stopped on Aug. 6 because the municipality needed to meet provincial regulatory requirements. One requirement is seeking community input.
MacKinnon states, “as we draw closer to being able to reinstate the transit service, we will be seeking community input in the form of a survey, the responses to which will help inform possible changes to operations to better meet the needs of the community.”
The survey is available via this link – https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HubTransitSurvey – or you may pick up a hard copy at the Municipal Office during regular business hours.
The survey includes 17 questions ranging from general to specific which are meant to gauge the public needs for the transit service in Sioux Lookout.
The survey will be open until October 12, 2022. The public is encouraged to complete the survey.
