SIOUX LOOKOUT -- Officials in Sioux Lookout are saying that the Hub transit service may be operational again by the middle of September.

The service stopped abruptly on Aug. 6 after the discovery that some changes were needed to meet provincial regulations that apply differently to a transit service run by a municipality rather than a volunteer run board that previously operated the service.

The municipality took over the service from Sioux Lookout Handi-Transit on July 1 of this year.

Officials say the cost of the required changes are covered the primary source of funding the vehicles, which are a provincial community transportation grant which runs through 2025 and gas tax funding.

The service has three vehicles in the fleet. Two used for regular services and one available for charter.

Service updates will be available on the Hub Transit website and Facebook page.
