IGNACE — Police have confirmed the person who died in a motorcycle collision near Ignace on Tuesday was a 60-year-old man from Kentucky.
The deceased was the rider of the motorcycle, the only vehicle involved in the crash.
Multiple witnesses reported seeing a motorcycle leave the roadway into the ditch at a "high rate of speed," police said in a media release late issued late Thursday.
The crash occurred west of Ignace along the eastbound lane of Highway 17. Police and paramedics responded shortly before noon.
Members of the Northwest region OPP's traffic incident management and enforcement team assisted with the investigation, closing Highway 17 between Highway 622 and Ignace for several hours.
Police ask that anyone with information on the fatal collision contact Ignace OPP directly or through Crime Stoppers.
