It Ain't Easy Being Wheel-y: Sweet child of mine

Remember to take time to relax.
Sarah Desforgesgeneric

Who else is feeling a little burnt out this summer?

Honesty the past month and a half has felt like such a whirlwind of day camps, work, the park, family visits, events and all the back-and-forth shuttling that comes with it.

We’ve barely been home for more than an afternoon in weeks.

Generally, I thrive in that kind of life; but the past few days I’ve definitely been feeling the effects of being so busy.

I finally found myself at home this week, with no events planned until the weekend. It’s only Monday and it’s been bliss.

My son and I have been taking it pretty easy the past couple days, just catching up on our own things and spending quiet time together.

It's hard to believe that in just three weeks he’ll be hopping onto the bus and headed for Grade 2. Everyone says that it goes by so fast, and man it sure does.

One of my favourites past times is looking through my old Instagram posts after he’s gone to bed and seeing all the wonderful things, we’ve done together in his seven years. Getting to see him change and grow from my tiny, never sleeping baby to my chatty and inquisitive child.

Gotta love technology for that!

Sitting here at home, finally able to just slow down and spend time with him this summer; I get to enjoy him all the more. I get to hear him prattle off millions of Minecraft stories, and pick saskatoons with him in our yard, read him five extra chapters of our book (The last Firehawk) before bed and just snuggle with him beside me on the couch.

Cliché as it may sound, being his mom is my favourite thing.

Summer can be a very very busy time for us all. I commend everyone out there who are able to wok full time and still get dinner made and put in time with their children. I am not often that successful with the dinner part, scraping together sandwiches or meat cheese and veggie plates.

But whenever you can, squeeze in that extra time with those little ones. Soak up all their questions, all their snuggles, and all their little games at the park.
