New Kenora Justice Centre features mural painted by Anshinabee artist

A woodland style mural featuring the seven grandfather teachings was revealed recently in Kenora’s new Indigenous-led Justice Centre.

The new Kenora Justice Centre includes one distinctive feature.

Blake Angeconeb, an artist from Lac Seul First Nation, has unveiled a new mural in the new Kenora Justice Centre.

“It’s my first mural in Treaty 3, and it feels like home — well it is home," he said. "I’m happy to have something in the community”

The recently opened justice centre has a goal of lowering Indigenous representation in the justice system in the surrounding area. In an effort to brighten up the space for the community, Angeconeb incorporated vibrant, loud colours in the mural.

“I wanted it to be piece for the community, because of everyone coming in and out of here,” said Angeconeb “ I just wanted to lift up the space with something nice that everyone can enjoy.”
