It is with great sadness but no regrets that the family of Wilbert George Charles announce his passing on Jan 21, 2023, with his last wish being to be able to remain at home to the age of 91 3/4! The support of his family and neighbours contributed greatly to this end.

Wil was born in Fort William, and worked as the display manager at Chapple’s Department Store. He flourished there, becoming the man responsible for all interior and window displays, and early on contributed greatly to the creation, organization, and continuation of the popular Santa Clause show. With the closing of Chapple’s he moved to Sears Intercity to continue as display manager until retirement.

While at Chapple’s, he met the love of his life, Evelyne Lorraine Valvasori, and their journey began. Sixty-three years of marriage produced five children and their mates, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Proudly survived by Deborah (David), Cynthia (John), Gregory (Linda), Bradley (Deborah) and Timothy (Kelly). Nono to Daniel (Rebecca), Darren (Marnie), Dawn (Christopher), Gregory (Heather), Christopher (Alissa), Kelly (Richard), Kevin (Vanessa), Kolin, Conner, Aiden, Jamie and Tyler, and Bisnono to sixteen great grandchildren. Also survived by sister Verlene, in-laws, Gary (Diane), Jim (Beverly), Jeannie (Denis) and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by wife Evelyne, siblings, Lorne, Margaret, George and daughter-in-law Linda.

He took much pleasure in his retirement, greatly assisting in our many family building projects and renovations . He was thrilled to be in the middle of the decision making and banter.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at the Knights of Columbus Center on May Street, Saturday, Feb. 11 at 12:00 PM.

A private family interment will follow at a later date. If you wish, please make donations to Heart and Stroke, Paws for Love, or charity of your choice.
