Thomas (Tom) George Tod, born on October 27, 1939, passed away on June 24, 2025, in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Tom was born in South Porcupine, Ontario, moving to Thunder Bay in 1943. He spent the majority of life here with the exception of a couple of years in Dryden. Growing up, and later with his own family, Tom enjoyed many summers at the family camp at Sunnyside Beach on the shores of Lake Superior.

Tom had a distinguished career, working at the Bank of Montreal, Palm Dairy, and dedicating 35 years to the City of Thunder Bay in the Treasurer's Department, retiring in 2001. He was a lifetime member of the Fort William Curling Club and a member of the Branch 6 and later Branch 5 Royal Canadian Legion.

Tom was a lifelong sports enthusiast. In his younger years, he led his Northern Ontario Team from the Fort William Curling Club, to become the 1958 Schoolboy Canadian Curling Champions held in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. He also represented Northern Ontario at the 1970 Brier in Winnipeg. Dad participated in track and field during high school, excelling in hurdles, high jump, and later volunteered for many years timing track and field events throughout the city. One of Tom's longest and greatest passions was soccer. Beginning with coaching his children when they were young, his involvement in the local soccer scene continued with Maple Leaf and Branch 6 soccer organizations. A highlight for Tom was his tour of premier league clubs while visiting family in England.

Tom was an avid gardener. Together with his friend Elving Josephson, they maintained a large and abundant vegetable garden where he loved to spend his time until his health failed this year. Family, friends, and neighbours, all enjoyed the fruits of his labor as he enthusiastically and generously shared vegetables with those around him. For many years, the friends attended Thunderwolves hockey games and could be seen occupying the same seats each season.

Tom is lovingly remembered by his wife Deanna (Sangster) Tod, whom he married in 1967, his only sibling, sister, Ann Tod and by his three children, Robert Tod (Kim Tod), Liz Tod (Rich Patriquin), and Susan Tod (Albert Warren). He will be missed by his 7 grandchildren; Emily and Calum Tod, Hunter Kelly, Dylan and Curtis Kingston, Maddy and Kane Patriquin. Tom was a great dad who attended all of his children’s sporting events as a spectator / coach, all the special moments, and passed on his love of sport to all his kids. He was a very proud and caring grandfather who took every chance he had to spend time with his family. He will be greatly missed by all, especially for the special phone calls, cards, and texts he would send on a regular basis. Tom was extremely proud of his three children for all of their life accomplishments and was never tired of hearing about their many adventures.

Tom was predeceased by his father Thomas William Gardner Tod and his mother Olive Rheberta Tod.

Special thanks to the staff at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, and St. Joseph’s Hospice for their exceptional care.

It can’t be said enough, how much he will be missed. He was such an important part of the family, and would do anything for his family and friends. He always put his family first, before himself.
