Ronald Mitchell

Mr. Ronald Mitchell, age 79, passed away peacefully at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 with family by his side.

Ron was born on January 27, 1943 at 629 Van Norman Street, Thunder Bay, ON, the only child of Robert (Bob) and Ella Marie Mitchell.

Ron attended Pine Street School and Hillcrest High School graduating from Grade 12. He was employed as a highly valued shipping clerk at the Port Arthur General Hospital for 28 years, retiring in January 1994.

Family and friends have shared the following words when remembering Ron … soft-spoken, generous, kind, caring, loyal, with a great sense of humour! Above all, he loved music! In his younger years, he enjoyed playing his guitar and singing. Ron was very close to his mother. Missing her very much, after her passing, he would frequently visit and phone his cousin Lorraine.

As a result of his passion for music, Ron accumulated a large selection of CD’s, records, cassettes, tapes, record players and CD players. On Saturday mornings he would catch the bus, or walk, to yard sales in search of bargains … adding to his collection. He also collected many other items that he took pleasure in owning. Ron loved animals, especially his two cats who he always worried about and enjoyed spoiling!

In later years, as Ron’s health and mobility declined, he had many hospital visits and stays … the last one being in June.

Ron was predeceased by his father Robert (Bob) Mitchell, mother Ella Marie (Buddy) Mitchell, his grandparents, several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Left to remember Ron are his cousins Shirley Wickstrom, Diane Warpula, Roy Peterson, Lorraine Aho, Doreen Fillipuzzi and their families.

A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 20, 2022. Interment in Riverside Cemetery will follow the reception. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Thunder Bay and District Humane Society, Caring Hearts Cat Rescue or a charity of your choice.
