Mr. Robert (Bob) Gougeon passed away peacefully on Aug. 1ST, 2025 at St. Joesph’s Hospice. Bob was born on May 20, 1951 in Port Arthur to Phil and Ida Gougeon. Bob grew up in Current River and eventually moved to Ottawa to become a college professor. Bob enjoyed music, photography, art, poetry, long walks, canoeing and Canadian history, with a special interest in indigenous culture and history. He was a consummate reader of philosophical works by well-known authors. He had his own radio show, writers on radio (cabbages and kings), interviewing prominent authors of philosophical and political views. Upon retiring, he returned to Thunder Bay to be with his mother and continue his lifelong learning and teaching at Confederation College. One of Bob’s favorite projects was decorating his front yard for Christmas and Halloween, which was enjoyed by his family members and neighborhood children. Bob also enjoyed his French language group participation. Bob is survived by nieces Amanda and Andrea Gougeon, close cousins Susan (Frank) Saraka, Mike (Aila) Poleck, and Judy (Jim) Warner and special friends Heather and Gordon. Bob was predeceased by his parents Ida and Phil Gougeon, and brother and sister-in-law Phil and Deb Gougeon. Bob will be genuinely missed by those who knew him. Cremation has taken place, and interment will be held at a later date. If so desired, in lieu of flowers donations to a charity of choice would be greatly appreciated.
