The world lost a big heart and the Bonnie Family have lost their cornerstone. Big Ray passed on Saturday, June 3rd at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital with his family by his side.

Ray was born in Fort William, ON to Rose and Martin Bonnie, living in Westfort until he was 7 when he became a true ‘Eastender’. Working from a young age, Ray worked at Great Lakes Papermill, before moving onto different careers from selling cars to commercial cleaning. Ray retired in 2008 from Northern Wood Preservers where he worked as an operator for 24 years.

An avid fisherman and camper, Ray loved outdoors adventures. He spent much of his younger adult life as a member of the Jaycees and supporting the local youth bowling league as a coach. The self-professed ‘King of Knowledge’, he loved working in his garage, tinkering and building the next big project. Nothing brought Ray more pride than when he was needed to help fix a problem or lend a tool from his vast collection.

He is survived by his children Martin, Raymond Jr., Raylin and Jason. An adored ‘Gege’ by his grandchildren Riva, Luke and Addison. Big brother to sister Linda, brother Brian, sister-in-law Laurie and brother-in-law Peter. Legendary ‘Uncle Ray’ to Vicki & Lincoln (Kaylee & Carter), PJ and Barb (Cole), Katie & Sarah, Alyssa & Will, Kyle & Lauren. He will be missed by his beloved fur-baby, Derzi. Ray was predeceased by his parents and his sister Mary Ann (Auntie Mimi).

Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, best wishes are welcome as we celebrate Ray’s life at the Slovak Legion (Atlantic Avenue) on Thursday, June 8th from 11am to 2pm
