With great sadness, the family of Mrs. Phyllis Doris Morriseau, age 66 years and a resident of North Caribou Lake First Nation, announce her peaceful passing in St. Joseph's Hospice on Monday, November 27, 2023.

Phyllis was born in Weagamow Lake, Ontario on November 15, 1957. In her early years, she worked as a Commercial Fisherman, but her true calling was Teaching. Phyllis dedicated over 40 years to the education of so many children in her community. She was proud of her heritage and culture and worked hard to teach and preserve her language and values. Phyllis met Pierre Morriseau and they were married on October 22, 1979, building a wonderful life together. Phyllis enjoyed the outdoors, blueberry picking and always looked forward to cookouts with family and friends. She loved everyone, had a big heart and an amazing sense of humour. Our family and the community has lost a pillar of knowledge and strength, but the memories we shared with Phyllis will always remain. She will be forever missed.

Phyllis is survived by her husband of 44 years, Pierre; children Jarrett (Marlene), Kyle and Michelle Morriseau (Landyn Sturgeon); grandchildren Madeline, Benjamin and Nicholas Morriseau; siblings Caroline Quequish, Raymond (Beatrice) Adams, Lucy Kenequanash (Billy), Sarah Quequish and Harry Sakchekapo. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Neil, Darlene and Vernon (Arrows) Morriseau as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

She was predeceased by her parents, Tommy Adams and Eva Adams (nee Sakchekapo); siblings Sadie Chikane, Thomas Adams, Ina Kanate, Caleb Sakchekapo, Innes Sakchekapo and Albert Sakchekapo; mother-in-law and father-in-law Alphonse and Patricia Morriseau; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Verna Morriseau, Emile Fabian, Wayne Morriseau, Myrna Morriseau and Daniel Morriseau.

A Wake Service for Phyllis will be held in Thunder Bay on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 from 2:00pm until 4:00pm in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James, officiated by Gary Quequish.

Phyllis will then be transported home to North Caribou Lake First Nation where a Wake will be held beginning Thursday evening, in Weagamow Lake Evangelical Fellowship Church. The Funeral Service will be held in the Church on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 11:00am, officiated by Gary Quequish. Burial will follow in the Weagamow Lake Community Cemetery.
