It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of beloved husband, father and grandfather, Peter Gerald Arenburg on July 3, 2025, at the age of 77. Peter passed away peacefully surrounded by family at St. Joseph’s Hospice.
Born in Aldershot, Nova Scotia, Peter grew up in Kentville before moving to Toronto. It was there where he met and married Pat. In 1975, with their three children, they moved to Thunder Bay. By trade, Peter was a sheet metal worker, and together with Pat they were business partners at Midland Heating and Ventilating. He was a member of SMWIA Local 397 for more than 40 years. He was never more proud than when his son Steven and now grandson Zachary followed in his footsteps as sheet metal workers.
In 1999, he and Pat fulfilled their dream of owning a camp where they made memories with family and friends at Shebandowan Lake. An avid snowmobiler, fisherman and hunter. He always looked forward to his annual hunting and fishing trip with close family and friends. He will be remembered for his sense of humour and quick wit. Peter loved his dogs and was happy to see his Buddy in his final hours. Peter met Deb in 2009 and they were married in 2015. For the last 16 years, they travelled the world, sailing the seas of the Caribbean, rivers of Europe, travelling coast to coast in Canada and spending their winters in Florida.
Peter was predeceased by his wife Pat, brothers Jim, Howie, and Gordie. Left to mourn and carry on the traditions of making the best devilled eggs and telling the worst dad jokes are his wife Deb, daughters Michelle (Marcel) and Tracy (Jason), son Steven (Dana), and Deb’s children Jason (Nancy) and Shelly (John). Grandpa to Nathan, Andrew (Michelle), Crystal, Teagan, Matthew, Brooke, Zachary, Josh, Braidon, Payton and Parker and great-grandpa to Finley. Brother to Tom (Betty), Ray (Pam) and sister Janet (Gerry). Uncle to many and lifelong friend to many more.
As per Peter’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 7-9pm at the First Christian Reform Church, Cooper Road. Interment on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 10:30am at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Oliver Road, followed by the funeral service at 11:30am at the First Christian Reform Church (livestream youtube.com/@firstcrctbay). A reception at the church will follow.
The family sends their sincerest gratitude and thanks to the team at Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion during Peter’s last weeks as well to the team of nurses from Bayshore. If friends desire, memorials to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre – Cancer Care in Peter’s name would be appreciated.
Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.”
