Mr. Myron “Sonny” Gary Warenzek, age 69 years, resident of Thunder Bay, ON, passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully, at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on September 9, 2023. Born on April 26, 1954 in Fort William, ON, Sonny was raised and educated in Fort William and attended Fort William Collegiate Institute. His creative and artistic talents, which were later channeled into his well-known interior decorating, gained him admittance into a coveted arts program in British Columbia, though he ultimately chose to study photography locally at Confederation College. Originally employed by Great Lakes Paper mill as a teenager, “Buffy” held various positions throughout his career, and was employed as a lab analyst with Bowater when he retired in 2009 after 39 years of service.

Sonny always had a love for music, one he proudly passed down to all his children, and he didn’t need a dancefloor to pull you up for a twirl! He was an avid tennis player in his younger days, but his love for gardening, landscaping, and fishing were strong his entire life. He enjoyed little more than spending a day with family and friends at his camp at Whitefish Lake, but his greatest joy in recent years was any time spent with his “buddy,” Grandson Weston.
Sonny was predeceased by his parents, Marion and Anne Warenzek, sister Joan and brother-in-law Joe Laudadio, many cousins and other family, including cousin and best friend Mike Nordal, and his cherished Aunt, Olga Nordal.

Sonny is survived by his dedicated wife of 48 years, Margaret, his children Nicole Cooper, Jeremy (Beverley Kelley) and Jamie Warenzek, grandson Weston Warenzek, sister Gail (Julian) Malinsky, niece Joanne (Travis) McNicol, special cousins Janice, Michael (Sarah), and Cassandra Nordal, as well as many special friends and other family.

Keeping with Sonny’s wishes, cremation has taken place; his remains will be scattered privately at his beloved camp, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Thunder Bay and District Humane Society or a local animal rescue in Sonny’s memory.
