It is with profound sadness that we announce Markku’s death on June 20, 2025. He succumbed to complications following surgery in Hamilton. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family. He was born on March 18, 1996. He was a quiet person with a kind and gentle soul and a good sense of humour.

He will be greatly missed by his parents, Erkki and Trudy, his sister Hanna and the love of his life, Jessica Maki. Also, his numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Hendrik and Gezina Houwers, and Martti and Toini Rajaniemi.

He attended Claude E. Garton School, St. Ignatius High School and Lakehead University, where he graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree. He worked at Resolute and later at CIMA+.

He was competitive and enjoyed sports. He was most enthusiastic about running. His most memorable race was the Royal Parks Half Marathon in London, England. He also played ultimate frisbee, enjoyed cycling, rollerblading, karate and computer gaming with his friends.

If friends so desire, donations can be made in his name to The Mark Preece Family House in Hamilton or a charity of your choice. https://markpreecehouse.ca/

A date will be announced later for the Celebration of Life.
