After a long and healthy life, our beautiful mother and grandmother, Peggy Rose passed away in St. Joseph’s Hospital on November 16, 2022 at the age of 97 with family by her side.

Peggy was born in Fort William, ON. She moved with her family to Sioux lookout at a young age and lived there until she enlisted in the Airforce as a radio operator, at the age of 18, during World War 2. She was stationed in Halifax/Dartmouth after completing radio school in Montreal, and remembered her Morse code even into her 90’s.

Mom moved to Vancouver after the war before returning to Sioux Lookout and working at the Armstrong airbase as a radio operator. She moved back to Fort William with her young children and former husband, Gordon Nethercott. When her children were older, she worked in Ridgeway Clinic Pharmacy and for Dr. Park.

Peggy married Dick and moved to Bright’s Grove, ON then later moved back to Thunder Bay, in their retirement, to be with their families. Mom enjoyed travelling with Dick to Florida and Jamaica and later with friends on an Alaskan Cruise. She was very independent, living on her own until recently.

She is survived by her daughter Joanne McFarlane, son Allen (Cindy) Nethercott, granddaughter Kristen McFarlane and her father Michael McFarlane, grandson Dan Nethercott, step-daughter Jan (Glen) Harmer and their family, step-son Dan (Lori) Rose and their family, brother in law Stuart Keen, nieces and nephews.

Peggy was predeceased by husband Richard (Dick) Rose, granddaughter Shelley, parents Walter and May Wilson, brother Milon Wilson and younger brother Warren Wilson (in childhood). She was also predeceased by her in-laws Archie & Elsie Rose, Helen and George Wolfe and Betty Keen.

As per Mom’s wishes, there will be no memorial service; a family interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens. If friends and family so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
