Louise (Luise) Niemi (Mantey) passed away on September 5, 2023, at age 92. She is survived by daughters Lorna (Rob) Larsen, Linda (Pat) McMullin, Sharon Niemi and son Paul Niemi, five grandchildren, Scott (Tina) McMullin, Kerri (Dave) Manning, Kris (Lindsay) Larsen, Andrew (Nacho) Larsen, Sara Niemi, eight great-grandchildren Amelia (Steph), Brandon and Bailey McMullin, Kourtnie and Keaton Metcalfe, Avery Manning, Caiden and Charlie Larsen, brother Walter (Terezina) and sister-in-law Irma Mantey, nieces Delores (Tony) Peters, Darlene (Glen) Gregory, Karen (Norm) MacDonald and nephews Brian (Margaret) Marshall, Wayne (Kim) Mantey, Ken (Michelle) Mantey, Martin (Jaqueline) Mantey. Louise was predeceased by husband Kauko of 64 years (2014), brothers Willi, Heine, Gary, and Harry Mantey, sister Erika Knipfel, granddaughter Shanna Larsen, parents Adolph and Magdalena Mantey, sisters-in-law Ina Mantey, Anya (Neil) Marshall, brother-in-law Fred Knipfel and in-laws Mat and Varma Hanni.

Louise was born in Waldhof, Ontario, attended a one room school and graduated from Dryden High School. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church of which she was a lifetime member. Louise worked at the Port Arthur General Hospital, A&P Supermarket and Sears. Louise enjoyed reading, knitting, walking, gardening, camping, fishing, golfing and cross-country skiing, but her biggest joy was raising four beautiful children who turned into wonderful adults. Louise visited most of Canada plus special trips to Hawaii, Bermuda, San Francisco and Paris.

A small family service will be held graveside at Riverside Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to Team Shan Breast Cancer Awareness for Young Women (teamshan@gmail.com) or Christ Lutheran Church are appreciated.
