Lenard Nason

It is with heavy hearts the family of Lenard James Nason announce his passing on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at the age of 82 in Thunder Bay Regional Hospital with his son Darren by his side.

He was born on May 24, 1939 and raised in Mabella, ON with his mom, dad and siblings. He learned from a very young age the responsibility of work by having to go to school early to start a fire to get and keep the school room warm and also sweep up to keep the classroom clean. He worked various jobs until he started at Great Lakes Paper in the forestry division operating various pieces of machinery but mainly on a 3-man slasher or a feller buncher in the end until his retirement. When he came home from the bush camps, his weekends was always full of chores, such as cutting the pulp wood on his property for sale at the local mills, cutting, splitting firewood to keep our house warm, trapping fur in the winter months and many other jobs that are too many to mention.

At a young age he met the love of his life Irene Hillman and they were married on June 28, 1958 and would have celebrated their 64th anniversary this year. They raised 4 children in the Sunshine/Finmark area. He worked hard his whole life to support his family. When he wasn't working his main enjoyments besides his family, was hunting and going to watch dirt late model racing at various tracks in our region and also in the U.S.. After working in the bush camps all week and then riding home approx. 2hrs, he would then jump in the passenger seat and ride another 6 hours or more to get us to a race and then we would head home for him to get back to work on Monday.

Lenard is lovingly missed and survived by his wife Irene, by his son Darcy and family, daughter Wendy (Bruce) Nason-Maki and family, son Keith (Cheryl) and family and son Darren (Diane). He is also survived by youngest brother Gary (Luba) and family, as well as numerous relatives.

He was predeceased by his parents Hartley and Aili Nason , his siblings, Harold, Elsie, Phyllis, Joan and Robert. As per Lenard's wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service.

At a later date hopefully late spring or summer we will have a gathering amongst his immediate family. Rest in peace you great and loving man.
