It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Lauretta “Ruby” Morson on May 27, 2025, with her beloved son Aaron by her side. She was 71 years old.

Lauretta was a force — vibrant, complex, and unapologetically herself (sparkly eyeshadow and ruby red lips included). She wasn’t one to mince words or sugarcoat the truth — if you asked for her opinion on something (or even if you didn’t) she always gave it to you straight.

Lauretta was the mother to two sons. Her bond with Scott was full of fire — two strong personalities who could argue passionately one moment and laugh just as hard the next. She had a deep love and friendship with her son Aaron, marked by shared laughter, inside jokes, and TV ghost-hunting marathons. Even as her memory faded, Aaron remained her constant. She never forgot him. Lauretta’s love for her family and friends ran deep, and her presence, whether comforting or candid, was always felt. She was never afraid to offer a shoulder, a stern word, or even a knock upside the head when needed.

Lauretta will be greatly missed by her grandchildren. She was Nan to Gage and Presley, and Nonna to Reilah and Avaiya.  Together they created a world of warmth, mischief, and memories — from sleepovers and movie days on the living room floor to painting nails, city bus rides for fun, and serving up her famous “puppup (star) soup” with grated cheese. She gave them East End Thunder Bay magic — and love they will carry forever.

Lauretta leaves behind her mom Clelia; sister Cecilia (Giovanni); sister-in-law Liliana (in Italy); son Aaron Hordy, daughter-in-law Chelsey and their children Reilah and Avaiya; daughter-in law-Jennifer Hordy and her children Gage and Presley; long time bestie Pat Stareski (Ron) and many other family and friends in both Canada and Italy. She will be missed by all those who were lucky enough to know her unique spirit.

We find comfort in knowing that she is now at peace, watching over us with her son Scott Hordy, dad Egisto Morson and brother Secondo Morson.

Service will be held at St. Peter's Church, 615 Connolly Street in Thunder Bay on Thursday, August 14th at 10:00 am.  Tea and sandwiches will follow.

Please remember Lauretta as you knew her — in all her complexity, humour, loyalty, and love. That was her true self.
