Kaz Mamos

It is with great sadness and peace that we announce the passing of Kazimierz (Kaz) Mamos, age 99, with loving family by his side.

Kaz was born in Poland on Jan 1,1923. After a very difficult youth, Kaz fled to Germany and was trapped there during the World War 2. After the war, he guarded American soldiers and he then immigrated to Canada in search of a better life. Kaz settled in Geraldton, Ont. where he worked as a, tough as nails, logger for Kimberly Clark in very extreme conditions.

In Geraldton, Kaz's friend Jadwiga introduced him to Zofia who lived in Poland and after a brief correspondence she immigrated to Canada to marry Kaz and raise their 2 children Caroline and Edmond.

In 1974 Kaz moved his family to Thunder Bay and was employed by Abitibi until his retirement. Kaz was a good provider. He had a knack for purchasing, living in, renovating and then selling homes.

He was thrilled to have five Grandchildren and he enjoyed seeing and attending their many athletic and musical activities.

In his last five years of life, Kaz proved time again just how tough he was.
He survived many health issues and just kept on trucking. He was a very well-liked resident of Southbridge Roseview and was lovingly cared for in the Champlain unit.

He is survived by his loving wife Zofia and his Son Ed (&Michelle) Mamos and Grandchildren Shawna, Jordan & Mitchell and Daughter Caroline (&Barry) Couzelis and Grandchildren Carly and Jon. Also, nieces Liz & Helen Psczolko and his Cousin Olga Smith from Edmonton.
