It is with deep sadness that the children announce the peaceful passing of their beloved mother, Joyce Sgambelluri, on July 15, 2025, at the age of 89.
Born on November 6, 1935, in Port Arthur, Ontario, Joyce was the cherished daughter of the late Victor and Frances Morellato. Joyce married her true love, Francesco “Frank” Sgambelluri, and together they built a beautiful life, creating a warm and loving home for their six children.
Joyce radiated warmth, kindness and an unyielding spirit throughout her life. She was proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Time spent with them brought her the greatest joy and that showed through her unwavering devotion, gentle nature and bright smile.
Joyce kept her hand busy with her knitting, crocheting, embroidery work and enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, word searches and colouring.
Joyce will be deeply missed by her children Donald (Louise), Dominic (Judy), Maria Lynn (Gerard) Lesschaeve, Gerald, Michael (Shirley), and Anna-Marie; her grandchildren Jennifer (Arthur), Jeremy (Tammy), Danielle (Curtis), Chantal, Kylie (Barry), Brandon (Josee), Tara, Tammy, Evan, Ryan (Natasha), and Shayne; and her great-grandchildren Kayla-Anne, Kacie, Rosie, Hazel, Charlotte, Drew, Daya, Brynlee, Lincoln and Logan. She is survived by her brother David (Marguerite) and sister Cynthia (Ray), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and extended family.
Joyce was predeceased by her husband Francesco “Frank”, parents Victor and Frances Morellato, sisters Clare, Delores and Adeline, brothers Ernie and Dennis and niece Rebecca Rae-Lynn.
The family would also like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the medical professionals who cared for and supported Joyce over the years.
Cremation has taken place, and Joyce’s final farewell will be held at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, with a visitation starting at 12:45pm and the Funeral Mass at 1:30pm. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery with a reception at St. Agnes afterward.
Should friends so desire, donations made in memory of Joyce to St. Joseph’s Foundation of Thunder Bay would be greatly appreciated.
