It is with deep sadness that the family of Jean Hansen, age 90, announce her passing on Monday, January 16, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Hospital – Hospice Unit.
Jean was born on August 21, 1932 in Keewatin, Ontario to parents Thomas and Kate Grant. She was the youngest of 10 children; having 5 older brothers and 4 older sisters, one sister which sadly passed away at 7 months old.
Jean took her RNA training in Fort William, graduating in 1953. Later, moving back home to Keewatin to start her career at the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Kenora. She married the love of her life Gord Hansen in 1955; having a wonderful life and many adventures together. They settled in Thunder Bay in 1970, where Jean decided to go back to work, working part time at Westmount Hospital for 24 years; she truly loved her career, taking care of patients.
Her favourite past time was being out at Shebandowan Lake, sitting round the campfire and watching the stars and satellites.
Jean will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter Terri (Rene), sons Mitch and Jason, step-granddaughter Joceline Lacroix (Micheal), grandson Trevor Ruthven (Heather Beck), great grandsons Zachary and Elliott, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and special friends Ken and Lynda McKenzie.
She was predeceased by her husband Gord (2009), her father Tom (1965), mother Kate (1977) and all of her older siblings.
The family would like to thank Lily and Theresa the two hospice nurses who took care of mom for the short time she was there; they were kind and compassionate.
Funeral Services for Jean will be held in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre on Monday, January 23, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation to being one hour prior. Interment will take place at a later date.
