It is with great sadness that the family of Ms. Geraldine Cameron, age 70 years, announce her unexpected passing on Wednesday, February 1, 2023.

Geraldine was born in Kingston, Jamaica on February 16, 1952. She came to Canada as a young girl and was a major part of the Caribbean community in Toronto during her youth. She was in the first Caribbean parade and participated in social organizing to support better outcomes for Black youth migrating to Toronto.

Much of Geraldine’s life centered around family. She made great efforts to always be present for her children and grandchildren and she spent time showing them how to cook, crochet, pray, manifest, and survive in this world. She loved her reggae music and could often be heard jammin to her tunes, belting out lyrics, or watching a wide array of African movies. Her favourite drink was Bailey’s and her favourite foods included cinnamon buns, oxtail, fry dumpling, and fish soup.

As a strong Caribbean woman Geraldine was fierce, witty, and tenacious, and her big heart always served others well. Each day that she rose was a good day to help those in need. She had many spiritual beliefs that she applied to life and how she navigated this world, and her core values always propelled her towards care work and helping people.

Geraldine’s favourite bible verses came from the book of Psalms. Psalm 28, verses 6-7, “Praise be to the Lord, for he has heard my cry for mercy. The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.”

Geraldine is survived by her 3 daughters, Paula Cameron, Michelle Miekle, and Natasha Cameron; 9 grandchildren, Chanequa, Chanel, Keon, Kamar, Jahquiele, Amina, Mariam, Saudika, Souliman; 2 great granddaughters, Keonah and Symphony; her nephew Kevin; her aunt Alrika as well as numerous cousins and other relatives.

She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Audrey; as well as her brother Trevor Cameron.

A Nine Night Celebration will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2023 and a Celebration of Geraldine's Life will be held in the spring of 2023 in Toronto, Ontario.

Interment will take place in Toronto in April 2023.

Should friends so desire, donations made in memory of Geraldine by EMT to chanyconsult@gmail.com would be greatly appreciated.
