It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our husband, father, Nonno and Great Nonno, Eugenio Caruso. Eugenio was born in 1932 in Aiello Calabria, Italy. Before immigrating to Canada, he was an arborist and served in the Italian military for 2 years. With the help and support of his brother Carmine, Eugenio immigrated to Canada in March 1966 with his wife Lina and son Michael Gaetano.

After years spent working in construction as a laborer, Genio as most called him settled into a happy retirement filled with his beloved hobbies. Perhaps of all, his favorite was gardening during the summer months. Of note was his enjoyment of growing roma tomatoes which he lovingly grew from seedlings and planted each spring. In the winter months, supresatta sausage making was the hobby that brought the whole family together. At heart, Eugenio was an outdoorsman who enjoyed long summer days working outside and basking in the sun. He especially loved tending to his farm rabbits which kept him busy even until recently.

When relaxing, Eugenio enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. Often, Eugenio was found watching wrestling on television and was a particular fan of 1980s action movies. In his early retirement days, Eugenio was an avid walker, oftentimes walking 15+ kilometers in a day.

Eugenio is survived and forever remembered by his loving wife Lina of 66 years, son, Anthony (Rachelle), and daughters, Carmen and Gina (Mike) Gutmann. Grandchildren, Christine (James), Kaitlyn Caruso, Samuel, and Ella Gutmann. Great grandchildren, Kayden and Myah. Sisters abroad, Elena and Emilia, along with many special nephews, nieces, cousins, and in-laws.

He is predeceased by his parents, Carmella and Gaetano Caruso, daughter Carmelina, and son Michael Gaetano (Mike). Sisters Antonietta and Armenia, brothers, Gino, Carmine, and Salvatore.

The family would like to thank Francesco and Lina Coccimiglio, along with Vanda Paola who are always there in our family's darkest hours. Giovanna, Cory, and the rest of Harbourview funeral home staff for their generosity and effort. Father Luigi, along with St Anthony's parish staff. A special thank you goes to the staff of the TBRHSC ICU unit, who cared for Eugenio in his last days. Your compassion and empathy will be always remembered.
