Edward Molcan

It is with profound heartbreak that we announce the passing of our beloved spouse, father, brother and uncle, Edward (Ed) Molcan at the age of 58. Ed made his earthly departure on February 27, 2022 peacefully with his family by his side after a brief illness at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Ed was born in Port Arthur on July 12, 1963, the son of the late Andrew and Auleen Molcan. A lifetime resident of Thunder Bay, Ed’s early days were spent growing up in Current River.

Ed was an encyclopedia of knowledge when it came to property assessment. He held a respected position with Municipal Property Assessment Corporation the majority of his career and was blessed with an early retirement at the end of 2019.

Whether it was the annual surf & turf weekend or visits to the Sugar Shack, Ed spent endless hours outdoors with his lifelong friends. Ed was an avid sports fan and loved to watch his teams, the Chicago Bears and Boston Bruins.

Ed took great pleasure in spending time with his family at our camp on Wartman Lake, home of the spider dogs, classic rock block and of course nightly bonfires with marshmallows to roast. We never made it home without stopping for ice cream at Lappe Store.

His loves were his children, Alex and Josh, supporting them in all of their achievements. Not a dance recital or hockey game was missed and he was always cheering them on.

He will always be in our hearts and forever missed by his spouse of 26 years, Deanne (Dee) Newman, daughter Alexandra (Joseph), son Joshua, sister Lisa (Rick) Wychopen, niece Lindsey (Alex) Jaspers, mother-in-law Beverly Newman, brother-in-law Craig Newman as well as many dear relatives and close friends.

He was predeceased by his parents Andrew and Auleen Molcan and father-in-law Gary Newman.

The family would like to thank Dr. Kovacs and the ICU nurses for their exemplary care.

A Celebration of Edward’s Life, presided by Rev. Rob Smith, will be held on Friday, March 4, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre with visitation to begin one hour prior. A private family interment will take place at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the TBRHSC, Roots to Harvest or a charity of your choice.

The service will be live-streamed and archived at www.harbourviewfuneral.ca where condolences may be offered as well. No advance registration is required to attend nor is proof of vaccination. Masks are still mandatory.
