It is with great sadness that the family of Doris Frances Tait (nee Rundell) , age 96, announce her peaceful passing on May 5, 2025.
Doris was born February 15, 1929 in the small farming town of Denzil, Saskatchewan, to Stanley and Mary Rundell. She was the youngest of 5 children. Doris had to leave home early to attend high school and graduated at 15. She went on to train as a Registered Nurse at St Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, beginning her career in 1949.
While working in Cupar, Sask., she met our dad Calvin (Kelly) Tait through his sister Margaret. They were married in 1958 and four kids quickly followed in succession. Because of dad’s job with the CPR, the family moved to Fort William in 1962.
Doris loved nursing and the bulk of her career was at St Joseph’s hospital in Thunder Bay, retiring in 1990.
Mum did many crafts over the years including macramé, quilting, and painting and all were exceptionally well done. Our family has many pieces of her artwork and quilts to happily remind us of her. She loved to play games and many evenings in her later years were spent playing cards and trying to best her special granddaughter Lindsay at the game.
Doris was able to live in her own home independently until her passing. She was predeceased by her loving husband Kelly in 2014, and her son in-law Paul Kane in 2022.
She was the last of her siblings and their spouses from out west Bud (Aggie) Rundell, Rod (Jane) Rundell, Elaine (Conrad) Zimmer, and Gene Rundell.
Doris is survived by her 4 children: Bruce (Carolyn) Tait, Cindy Kane, Jeffrey (Tracey) Tait, Gregory (Bobbi) Tait; 4 beloved grandchildren: Thomas Kane (Jillian Olson), James Kane, Lindsay Tait (fiancé Danny Folgado), and Kelly Tait. Her most recent joy was her great granddaughter Liv Kane to whom she was known as Gigi.
Cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will be held to commemorate our remarkable mum. If so desired, donations can be made to Kitty Kare or the Thunder Bay District Humane Society.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
