Mrs. Constance (Connie) Maureen (FitzGerald) Heringer, age 100 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully with family by her side on November 15, 2022 in St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Mom had an incredibly full and long life for which she was grateful. She grew up in Ottawa Ontario and was the eldest of 12 FitzGerald children, 11 of them being girls. She graduated from Immaculata High School with a scholarship to Brescia College (Western) where she completed a degree in languages 1941 and where she made lifelong friends. Upon her return to Ottawa mom worked in a variety of roles including for the bank of Canada and CSIS. She was a strong capable woman who knew her mind.

Mom met dad on the tennis court in Ottawa. They were married in 1948 -and the adventures began! She put dad through Med School at Ottawa University before spending a year in Wyandotte Michigan for dad’s Residency in Emergency Room Medicine. They returned to Port Arthur (where dad had grown up) in 1957 to open a General Medical Practice.

Mom and dad adopted six children from 1957 to 1963 (Matthew, Andrew, Caroline, Joseph, Philip and Claudia) The household was busy with Mom at the helm - Dixieland Jazz, East Loon Lake every summer, Mount Baldy, the bomb, Sunday mass always, McVicar’s creek, parades….the adventures were endless…
Mom was also a volunteer for many years with St Joseph’s Auxiliary and the Ontario Medical wives association going on to eventually manage dad’s medical practice for years. Mom especially enjoyed her years at Corpus Christi Church being both a lector and singing in the Corpus Christi Adult Choir.

Mom was heartbroken by the passing of the love of her life Tom (2002), son Joe (2002) and baby Jennifer. She is also predeceased by her siblings Behinn, Moira, Padraic, Frances, Clare, Anne, and Mary. Connie is survived by her children Matthew, Andrew (Gail), Caroline (Tom), Philip (Martina) and Claudia (Ernie) as well as 15 grandchildren (4 step grandchildren) and 11 great grandchildren. Grandma had special connections to her some grandchildren, Matt, Adam, Jill, Jake, Jamie, Michael and Brian. GMA will be missed by many young people.
Connie is also survived by her loving and devoted sisters Deira Murphy, Rowena Maxwell and Roberta Pigeon as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday November 22 at Corpus Christi RC Church with Rev. Victor DeGagne officiating. Visitation for family and friends will start one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the funeral mass immediately at St. Andrew’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice or Bethammi Nursing Home c/o St Joseph's Care Group Foundation, would be appreciated.
